Abstract: Under Section 305(b) of the CWA, the states, territories, and other jurisdictions of the United States are required to submit reports on the quality of their waters to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) every 2 years. Historically, the states submitted these reports in hardcopy format, and EPA prepared a national hardcopy report that summarized these findings (see http://www.epa.gov/305b). Purpose: To data can be used to identify the spatial extent of assessed waters within each state. The attribute information provided (e.g., designated uses, location, and waterbody name) is reported by States to EPA under CWA Section 305(b), and can be associated with the geospatial information (305(b) Waters as Assessed NHD Indexed Dataset found at http://www.epa.gov/waters/data/downloads.html). The attribute information can be viewed via ATTAINS available at http://www.epa.gov/waters/ir or downloaded via the AskWATERS Expert Query available at http://www.epa.gov/waters/tools.
