EPA Region 2 Draft NPL Site Contamination Area Boundaries as of February 2007 GIS Layer [EPA.R2_NPL_CONTAMBND]
This layer represents the contamination boundaries of all NPL sites located in EPA Region Region 2 (New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands). Attribute information includes site ID, name, locational information, RPM name, type (complete/non-complete), congretional district(s), area of contamination and population within 1 mile of the contamination border. Additional descriptive fields from CERCLIS have been included.
This data layer was created in response to OSWER's request to the regions for estimates of potentially effected populations around NPL sites. The request was part of the Superfund Workload Assessment that was done in 2006/07 assess the complexity of superfund sites so that Superfund resources could be managed for effectively. Although the dataset was created for the express purposes of OSWER's Superfund Workload Assessment, the Region 2 GIS Team assumed the data could be used by superfund site managers and other EPA staff for other purposes. All efforts have been made to QA/QC the data and provide relevant information about how the boundaries were delineated and the population estimates calculated.

Data are considered current to the date of the original source material. Please check sources, scale, accuracy, currentness and other available information. Please confirm that you are using the most recent copy of both data and metadata. These data should be used with the knowledge that the site boundaries and contamination plumes were digitized on-screen using digital orthophotos as a backdrop for reference. Often the extent of contamination was approximated based on hard copy site maps of contaminant plumes and monitoring locations and the RPM's knowledge of the site.
