This layer represents locations of American Indian reservations in Alaska.
<purpose>This layer is used to support EPA's analysis of regulated facilities, and environmental monitoring stations with regard to existence on or near Tribal lands.</purpose>
<supplinf>This layer is built by combining boundaries from the 2014 Census American Indian/Alaska Native/Native Hawaiian Areas (AIANNH) data (visit https://www.census.gov/geo/maps-data/data/tiger.html for details) with Federally recognized Tribal Entity Names as provided by EPA's Tribal Identification web service (found at http://www.exchangenetwork.net/data-exchange/epa-tribal-identification-tribes/ ). The relationships between Tribal Areas and Tribal Entities were built during earlier work by EPA's American Indian Environmental Office (AIEO) while developing the Tribal Information Management System (TIMS), and updated to account for the latest Tribal Area and Tribal Entity additions.</supplinf>

EPA uses the US Census Bureau 2010 tribal boundary layer data when developing environmental data query responses for tribes in the lower 48 United States and Bureau of Land Management Alaska State Office when developing environmental data query responses for tribes in Alaska. The tribal boundary locations identified are suitable only for general spatial reference and do not necessarily reflect EPA's position on any Indian country locations or boundaries, or the land status of any specific location. EPA seeks to use the best available national federal data and may refine the tribal boundary layer in the future as more accurate national federal data becomes available. </distliab>
