As part of the RE-Powering America's Land Initiative, the EPA and the U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) evaluated the feasibility of developing renewable energy production on Superfund, brownfields, and former landfill or mining sites. These reports pair EPA's expertise on contaminated sites with the renewable energy expertise of NREL. These reports aim to decrease the amount of green space used for development, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, ensure EPA’s commitment to protecting human health and the environment, and provide economic benefits to local communities, including job creation. This file highlights sites that received a feasibility study through RE-Powering and NREL/EPA partnership. There are other datasets which focus on contaminated lands, landfills, and mine sites tracked by EPA or states (including national files for utility scale, solar on landfills and files for all 10 EPA Regions) which may be available for development.
