This data layer provides access to Brownfields Grant Jurisdictions as part of the CIMC web service. The data represent polygonal boundaries that show different types of grants. Only properties benefiting from EPA Brownfields grant funding and technical assistance appear in Cleanups in My Community. There are different types of grants and each grant covers a specific area of geography. Grant areas can overlap, and often do. On the map, Brownfields jurisdictions will be shown as colored boundaries. Grant Jurisdictions have their own reports and fact sheet. For more information on Brownfields grants, see Brownfields Grants and Funding at https://www.epa.gov/brownfields/types-brownfields-grant-funding.

The CIMC web service was initially published in 2013, but the data are updated on the 18th of each month. The full schedule for data updates in CIMC is located here: https://iaspub.epa.gov/enviro/data_update_v2.
			</abstract>
			<purpose>The data in this service was developed primarily for the CIMC web application, but can generally be used more broadly. Cleanups in My Community is intended to provide information about sites that are being cleaned up, or have been cleaned up, in your community or anywhere in the United States. For more information on data uses, please visithttps://www.epa.gov/cimc.</purpose>

				<horizpar>Location information for EPA data provided via the CIMC web service are collected using many techniques. The processes used to collect location information for each type of data are as follows: Incidents of National Significance are derived from the official epa.gov web pages for each incident. Locations are collected for each incident individually, and may have varying accuracy. In the case where the original EPA pages did not provide a lat/long, a coordinate was placed manually based on the description provided about the site. Location information for Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) data are initially entered by the regulated facility. Location information for Brownfields data are originally entered by the Brownfields grantee. Location information for Superfund data are initially entered by the remedial project manager for each superfund site. Location information for Emergency Responses are initially entered by the On Scene Coordinator for each response. After initial data entry using the methods described above, locations are verified using a detailed process called the Facility Registry System (FRS) "Best Pick" Process. This process uses a number of routines and algorithms to validate location data for each site and to select the best location. Information regarding this process is available here: https://www.epa.gov/sites/production/files/2015-09/documents/frs_representative_point_processing.pdf
Because locations are assigned using numerous different methods, the accuracy level assigned to the data set is EPA National Geospatial Data Policy (NGDP) Tier 10 - Data were collected using methods that have unknown accuracy (EPA NGDP Accuracy Tier 10). For more information, please see EPA's NGDP at https://www.epa.gov/geospatial/geospatial-policies-and-standards.
